Testimonial for Paul Winfield
This is an unsolicited testimonial for Paul, who did a considerable amount of work on our house in Kidderminster in 2008.
Paul was recommended by a friend, after he had worked on her house, as well as her daughter’s. We had previously tried to find anyone who recommended a painter and decorator they had used, but many people had negative experiences. We made contact with Paul by phone, and arranged a time for him to come and see us, and our house.
At the first visit Paul brought with him a portfolio of work he had done, and looked at the extent of the work we needed. He agreed to send a quote. This arrived within a week, and impressed us hugely by its’ professional appearance, and options set out clearly with price differentials. We also asked Paul about his availability, and he was very clear about when he could do the work. Whilst not cheap we could see that the prices were reasonable, and reflected the amount of work required. We decided what we wanted, and contacted Paul to make the arrangements. He visited again for us to decide colours, and the work started exactly on time.
Once the work was started we had a change of heart with one of the colours, and Paul was able to accommodate this, and charged only for the additional paint and labour. He worked largely by himself in the house, and we felt confident of his integrity in leaving the house to him. His work is of a high standard, and he is generally tidy and cleans up after himself. There were a couple of minor areas where we were not 100% happy, and as he had requested before he started work, we pointed these out, and they were rectified without delay, or complaint. Throughout his dealings with us Paul displayed a pleasant temperament, and my husband and I enjoyed his company when we saw him.
I would be more than happy for any potential customers to contact me by phone, or for them to visit and look at the standard of Paul’s work. To sum up: my husband and I wish that more trades-people displayed the professional characteristics that appear to be Paul’s general business methods. We wish him well for the future.

I
found Paul Winfield, by chance when he was working on a neighbour's house and
asked him to re-paper a 'rough/tatty looking' ceiling in the lounge of
our 60 year old house. Paul recommended stripping the (ancient)
patterned anaglypta and using a thick lining paper instead to cover as
many cracks and lumps and bumps as possible. Then, if we decided it
wasn't 'good enough' Paul could paper on top again to get a better
result. I wasn't too convinced, but understood that the lining could be
either the end result, or papered over again - with anaglypta! -
either way I would not lose! It is a shame that Paul didn't do a before
and after (you could always strip n re-paper if you wanted too Paul!),
because words can't adequately describe the result. But try to imagine
an old plasterboard (60 yrs) that had dropped and cracked and flaked
away in various palces. So having literally papered over the cracks I
was amazed that it looked so much better. Better than the previous
raised anaglypta even, but, now there was no pattern to disguise the
surface deficiencies as had been before.
You CAN still see cracks n stuff, but I like it in a strange quirky
sort of way because it allows me to sing Paul's praises when I explain,
gesticulating, waiving my hands etc..
As
a result of this excellent job, I then asked Paul to paper a chimney
breast that had just had the original fireplace removed, so
significantly 'patched up' in plaster terms, with a surface that in
close up was looking like a tectonic plate slip. Paul papered and
painted it a nice Duck Egg Blue for us, with astounding results. I can
now play a game with people - "See that chimney breast, it's papered -
can you find the joins?" - No one does, it really looks like painted
virgin plaster.
So in their ways both jobs reflect Paul's consummate skill hanging paper and finishing to a very high standard.
If you want to impress your friends with invisible paper joins I can't recommend Paul too highly.

"I highly recommend the services of Cole & Winfield. I have employed
the company several times over the last four years to decorate 2 living
rooms, 2 bedrooms, one bathroom, a hall and the whole exterior of our
Grade 2 listed Victorian property. All work has been carried out to the
highest standard right through from first consultation on colours to
final finish. Preparation of all surfaces is thorough and meticulous
and the final finish bears testimony to the skill and hard work of the
company. The team are highly professional, industrious, courteous and
trustworthy. I would have no hesitation in using them again.
